PASTOR WENDELL BRANE’S DEDICATION MESSAGE

ON THE OCCASION OF AN ABORTION CLINIC’S DEDICATION TO A NEW AND GODLY MISSION

MAY 19, 2007

Most of us are familiar with the account in the gospels of Jesus driving out the merchants and money-changers in the temple, saying: “My house will be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.”  This house here, though never a temple, nor a house of prayer, has (for almost 30 years)
been a den of robbers (in the truest sense of the words): Women have been robbed of their children. Children have been robbed of their lives. The community has been robbed of its sanctity of life ethic, which this place stole. Many good Christian people, in trying to protect the babies have at times been robbed of their freedoms, and even possessions.   The great enemy Satan, who used the abortionist and his staff as his servants, have robbed them of their very souls – they are now more like machines than people, desensitized to the beauty of life, and immuned to the horror of even killing babies. The list goes on, not to mention fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, brothers, sisters, and more who have suffered as a result of the lives taken here.    Marriages have been broken, lives have been ruined, the emotional and mental health of would-be mothers have been shattered. No good whatsoever has come from this place. It is, and represents loss, death, robbery, and pain. While the “merchants of death” have not been driven out, they have, nonetheless, left. And therefore, we are here today to sanctify this place for God’s service.
Which is – when it comes down to it –  something that everyplace in this city, and, for that matter, on this planet, is to be: sanctified for God’s service! Everything and everyplace is to be set apart for God purposes, whether it is the temple in Jerusalem that Jesus cleansed, or the abortion clinic in

Fort Wayne, or the house next door, or for that matter, our own hearts and lives. Everything belongs to God, and nothing is to be offered up as an instrument of sin and evil.  And so today, we are simply embracing the truths in Psalm 24, where it says, “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;  for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.”  The brick, the glass, the plaster, the pipes, the fuse box, the sinks, the floors, everything, every cubic inch of 827 Webster  belongs to God, who rightfully owns all things in this universe that he created and continues to uphold. It was stolen and used for purposes of stealing – of stealing the lives of that which is the most precious to God, innocent babies made in his image. But thankfully, that will not happen here again. From this day on, the brick, the glass, the plaster, the pipes, the fuse box, the sinks, the floors, everything that belongs to God, will be used with that understanding in mind. And for this we give thanks. So, while we may be tempted to think that the temple (for instance) is more holy, and upsets God more when it is used for evil purposes, we need to realize that all of creation is holy to God – every part of it – and any of it that is used to perform evil acts grieves and angers him immensely. The elements of the earth that were used to make the brick and glass and plaster in this structure were created by – and belong to – God.
They were never intended to facilitate the killing of babies.  Indeed, if brick and glass and plaster could rejoice, great would their rejoicing be today! If buildings could sing, what a song this one would sing!  “What joy, what relief! To no longer be used for actions abhorrent to creation’s creator!” It is as if every piece of this building is celebrating together the news: “Have you heard, we will not have to participate in, nor observe, these grisly deeds again!”  Jesus cleansing the temple was but a
preview, a snapshot of the final and ultimate cleansing that will take place when he returns, and restores all creation to his will and purposes. In the mean time, we work toward that end, calling upon his help as we seek to restrain evil and bring all things into subjection under his feet.  And so upon that note, I should mention that our celebration today, though genuine, is still restrained. The great enemy continues in this city to rob mothers of their children, children of their lives, the community of its ethic, and so forth. Just 3½ miles east of here, the weekly slaughter continues.  And so, it is our prayer, that this facility, that has been returned to the purposes of God, will be used to rescue that facility, and to end child-killing in this city once for all. May that day come soon. That through our diligent acts of selfless service, this horrid stench before God will no longer rise up before him.   Let us renew our commitment to that end.– Wendell Brane“WE LOVE WENDELL”
