Just above Monsignor Lester’s death notice (RIP)

Pro-life attorney wants review of case

“A Fort Wayne pro-life activist who claims he was denied the opportunity to practice law in Indiana because of his orthodox Christian faith has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review his case. Bryan Brown filed in U.S District Court in Fort Wayne in December, alleging that Indiana Board of Law Examiners and others barred him from taking the Indiana bar exam after questioning his character and fitness to serve as an attorney – questions Brown claims were based on his belief that Christians should put God’s laws above human laws.

Brown, founder of the Arch Angel Institute in Fort Wayne, has been arrested or fined several times for pro-life activities. The high court should intervene, Brown argued, to prevent would-be lawyers from being forced to profess a secularist creed that violates their First Amendment right to freedom of religion.”

Stay  tuned for more on the federal district court filing of Dec 8 (against JLAP, Harrell, Sudrovech, Ross and Bowman) before US District Court Judge Theresa Springmann and the Fat Tuesday filing (against the Board of Law Examiners)  before the United States Supreme Court.  Two distinct federal cases seeking far different recoveries.

INTERVIEW WITH A RELIGIOUSLY MOTIVATED POLITICAL DISSIDENT

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Listen to Redeemer Radio, AM 1450 in Fort Wayne, at 9 am Saturday mornings for Dr. Matt Bunson’s show Faithworks.  I (Brown) was recently interviewed for 30 minutes by Dr. Bunson — he is a very fine interviewer.    NE Indiana is fortunate to have such a resource and fortunate to have Redeemer Radio and Dr. Bunson both.

Update:  The interview aired January  9 at 9 am.  Redeemer radio can be heard on the Net at this site:  http://www.redeemerradio.com/.

Working on a way to post a link to the interview, stay tuned.

Judge Dismisses Requiring Pro-Life Advocate to Pay Abortion Center’s Legal Bills Fort Wayne, IN — District Judge William Lee signed an order that dismissed a long-standing judgment against two Indiana pro-life advocates bringing about the sudden end to a contentious case nearly 20 years old. Lee’s order dismisses the case of the Fort Wayne Women’s Health Organization abortion center vs. Wendell Brane, Bryan J. Brown, Ellen Brown and Northeast Indiana Rescue. The lawsuit stemmed from the battles between the pro-life advocates and the center. In 1989, three protests at the clinic resulted in 400 arrests after more than 100 people tried to block the building’s doorways. Citing criminal statutes designed to break up organized crime rings, the Fort Wayne Women’s Health Organization, unnamed female plaintiffs and Dr. Ulrich G. Klopfer sued to prevent another protest. In 1990, Lee issued an injunction prohibiting the defendants from obstructing entrance into the Fort Wayne Women’s Health Organization. But at the same time, he also prohibited clinic officials from interfering with the protesters’ lawful activities off clinic property, according to court documents. While the arrangement was agreed upon by both sides, Brane and Bryan Brown ended up with an order forcing them to pay for the attorneys’ fees for the abortion clinic, something they have refused to do for nearly 20 years. What started out as just more than $61,000 nearly two decades ago has ballooned to about $350,000, according to court documents. They won’t have to pay those fees now.

Open mouth, Remove all doubt (post #1)

Monday, April 20th, 2009
What follows is a guest editorial from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette two weeks ago.  The liberal news hounds evidently sought after this piece? (See the final tag line.)  Controversy does sell papers, and what can be more fun than finding someone to throw rocks at the local Bishop who just called your Chosen One an agent of the culture of death?
The Journal Gazette (or someone so posing) called up the ArchAngel Institute and invited us to weigh in on the topic as well.  The ArchAngel Institute tendered a rebuttal … it was refused.  Probably not what the JG had in mind?
The Institute’s rebuttal to Mr. Terry’s maligning of the fine Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend will be presented after this set up post has a day or two to sink in.
The Institute does not endorse or agree with the rantings that follow:
D’Arcy should fight harder against speech

Our hearts soared when Bishop John D’Arcy announced his boycott of Notre Dame’s graduation because President Obama will speak. Our hearts sank when he urged Catholics to “to stay away from unseemly and unhelpful demonstrations against our nation’s President or Notre Dame or Father John I. Jenkins, C.S.C…”

I wish the bishop had followed biblical teaching and contacted me before making his public statement against our efforts. Since he has spoken publicly, I have a duty to respond in the same venue.

It is ironic that D’Arcy chose Good Friday to issue a statement urging Catholics to remain silent in the face of treachery. Sadly, it appears that he is following in the most regretful steps of St. Peter.

Peter boldly swore that he would not deny Christ; D’Arcy boldly declared he would not deny the value of innocent lives for the sake of prestige. But now D’Arcy wavers before Pilate (don’t protest Obama), confirms Judas (don’t protest Jenkins), and abandons Christ in the babies (don’t show pictures of dead babies, don’t cry out against their murder).

In his printed statements urging us to forgo demonstrations, he does not even mention the babies dying at Obama’s command. Let us pray that even as Peter met the eyes of the suffering Christ – and Peter’s heart was broken as he wept bitter tears – that Bishop D’Arcy meets the eyes of the babies condemned to a brutal death by the man he now suggests we do not protest.

He also stated: “The Notre Dame community is well-equipped to supervise and support discussions and prayer within their own campus…” This sounds “spiritual,” but is actually part of the crisis. God warns us through Isaiah: “Though you spread out your hands in prayer, I will not listen; though you multiply prayers, I will not hear you. Your hands are covered with blood.”

There are times it offends God if we only pray. If you could feed a starving man, yet don’t, and tell him: “I’ll pray for you” you have sinned. If you can save someone’s life, yet you pass by like the priest and Levite did in the parable of the good Samaritan, you have sinned. If you know the right thing and don’t do it, you commit the sin of omission.

We must pray – yes – and then act courageously. We must seek justice, rebuke the ruthless, defend the fatherless and cry out for righteousness.

This I know for certain: D’Arcy has stepped far beyond his canonical authority by urging the faithful to abandon the babies – and thereby abandon Christ – and to honor Obama and Jenkins with our silent cooperation. We do not deny D’Arcy’s right to question certain tactics, but he has gone far beyond that. He has asked us to commit the sins of omission and silence. Respectfully, we will not.

Let us remember that the last chapter on D’Arcy has not yet been written. Even as Peter wept, repented, was restored by Christ and finally strengthened his brothers, let us pray for D’Arcy’s full conversion and restoration.
