Open Mouth, Remove All Doubt (post 2)

Randy Terry the self-proclaimed prolife potentate

Is has been my first hand observation that the unmitigated gall of Randy Terry is without limit.

I first met Randy Terry in New York City in 1989.  He was a young firebrand of a pro-life leader who led the charge with much bravado while demanding that those who believe abortion is murder act like abortion is murder.

His message was simple, direct and called for personal sacrifice.  He lambasted those who stood against his crusade.

Randy’s message spread like wildfire, and within a few short years 50,000 Americans had risked arrest.  I did so numerous times. The movement blessed Randy with millions of dollars and two houses before it was shut down by the concerted efforts of the federal government and the abortion industry.

No one can deny Randy a place in the pro-life history books.  Some go even further and dub him a poster child for culture war profiteering.

Years later Randy, like me, joined the Roman Catholic Church.  He and I had discussed a Romeward journey a few times over the years.  Randy had even called me when he heard that I was joining the Church and attempted to talk me out of it –  to no avail.  I joined the Church in 1994 after reading Veritatis Splendor.  (I could do nothing else!)  Many years later Randy also “came home to Rome.”

I always wondered if one as self-directed as Randy could really become Catholic.  I believe that recent events  have answered that question.

Randy Terry recently  announced plans to enter into the diocese of Bishop John Darcy to protest Notre Dame’s regrettable decision to host President Barack Obama on campus.  (The visit and dialogue does not trouble me, it is the honorary law degree that violates their Catholic charter as I see it.)

Randy’s bravado was met with a direct and immediate cease and desist order from the diocese of Fort Wayne- South Bend.  If Randy remains protestant then he is free to give such orders about as much consideration as he granted federal court orders protecting abortion clinics “back in the day.”   If Randy is truly Catholic, however, then such an order should give him pause.  Great pause.  As Saint Ignatius of Antioch taught (capturing the essence of the Church Fathers) Catholics give glory to God when they obey the local Bishop.

This rule of obedience is robustly tested when we are asked to obey while we yet disagree with the local ordinary.  (See Father John Jenkin’s predicament as a fine example.)

If Randy gave Bishop D’Arcy’s injunction any pause at all it  was not evident in his recent column in the Journal Gazette.  Randy instead launched into this fine and honorable Bishop with the very same vitriol that has defined his bombardment of abortionists and abortion protecting judges.

It was both friendly fire and pure showmanship.  Randy proving himself the ringmaster of his own personal circus.

Bishop D’Arcy has, in the unyielding private judgment of Randy Terry, denied Christ and apostated from the truth once given.  (The good Bishop merely disagrees with Randy Terry on a tactical matter, something that many of Randy’s ex-friends did — but usually only once or twice.)

Randy’s invective reveals the shallowness of his Catholic conversion.  Turning Rome on its head, he accuses this direct agent of the fisherman of being a traitor to the faith, of being Peter before the cock crowed instead of Peter after the Holy Spirit’s indwelling.

Like the most rabid of cultists, Randall accuses Bishop John D’Arcy of denying Christ three times.

Mr. Terry finds great irony in the Bishop’s Good Friday rebuffing of Terry’s self-annointed strategy to turn the Notre Dame graduation into a so-called “circus.”  I find profound irony under other those big tops.  But not the same irony that Randall spotted.

Irony #1

I was in Wichita, standing against George Tiller’s unspeakable brutality and Judge Patrick Kelly’s statist injunction, when Randy stopped by just long enough to take up a few collections.  The priest (now Auxiliary Bishop) James Conley who received me into the Catholic Church years later witnessed Randy’s faith firstand.  When the federal judge ordered the Operation Rescue leaders arrested  Randy fled the city before sundown.  I know, I was there and I stayed, facing down the activist judge alone.   After 68 days of unconstitutional incarceration the judge relented and I was set free.

Such irony – Randy, who denied Christ by running from a federal “Pilate” in Wichita now finds in Bishop John D’Arcy’s well meaning call for prayers and student led dialogue a capitulation to “Pilate.”

Irony # 2

Randy Terry tried to make contact with me about two years ago.  The rumor mill reported that he was out of cash and looking to get back into the culture war profiteer business.  (Click here for more details on that profession.)  I took a call from a mutual friend who asked me to renew my relationship with Randy now that we were both “in the Church.”

I informed my friend that I would not make amends with Randy until I first heard from the woman that he divorced, Cindy.  Randy and Cindy stood together through thick and thin for many long years.  Cindy was my friend, and Randy “put her away”  after “falling in love” with the babysitter/secretary who aided he and Cindy during one of Randy’s numerous ill-fated political stints.  It was reported in the Christian press (World Magazine) that Randall Terry flat out abandoned Cindy and their minor children.

Randy did seek me out a year later.  He was unable to arrange the call from Cindy and so our relationship was not “rekindled.”

Such irony – Randy, who denied Christ by turning “Judas” on the wife of his youth and his own adopted children now comes to South Bend to accuse Bishop John D’Arcy  of being a Judas  – despite Bishop D’Arcy having led (and is yet leading) the dissent against the president’s Notre Dame visit.

Irony #3

Finally we have the prolife potentate Randall Terry calling a Bishop of the Catholic Church into the confessional for failing to “follow biblical teaching” and for allegedly leading his flock into “the sins of omission and silence” and thus “abandoning Christ.”

Did I already write  ”unmitigated gall?”

Such irony – Randy, who violates the heart of our Catholic teaching on humble obedience, has the audacity to allege that our good Bishop is in need of “conversion and restoration” simply because he disagrees with Randall Terry on how to best protest the president’s visit.  Randy’s remonstrating against the local ordinary  merely demonstrates that Mr. Terry’s own Catholic conversion was no more sincere than Peter’s pre-cock crowing denials.

Or no more sincere than Father Guido Sarducci’s Roman collar.  (See hyperlink at the above picture of Randy attempting his best Joe Scheidler impression.)

It would appear that Randy did not join the Catholic Church to be a layman but rather joined up to be our first American pope.

I am pleased to note that we already have a German Shepherd in Rome far more genuine and thought out than Randy Terry can ever be.  And a fine Irishman here at home, to boot.

Randy’s telling protestations against Bishop D’Arcy bring to mind a practice of Roman soldiers at the birth of the Church.  It is said that many of them, upon being baptized, allowed all but their swords to be immersed.  Their hearts went to the Risen King, yes, but their swords remained ever loyal to Rome.  It would seem that Randy’s conversion to the Catholic faith was much the same.  His heart may claim some allegiance to Rome, but his pen remains loyal to only himself –  a culture war profiteer he remaineth still … and he doth protesteth too much as well.

Go home, Randy.  Notre Dame has a fine shepherd – one that does not shear the sheep for self aggrandizement or filthy lucre.   Go home, Randy   and allow the local ordinary’s orders to bring a godly resolution to the Church’s problem at the University of Our Lady.   Go home, Randy –  your plan to turn this serious matter into a “circus” has done nothing but revealed you as a catholic (small c) , classless clown.

I strive to ever practice what I preach:  I will be home when President Barack Obama speaks at Notre Dame.  My family will be in prayer while Notre Dame dishonors its Catholic heritage by honoring the most pro-abortion president in our nation’s history with a law degree.  (St.Michael the ArchAngel , defend us in battle….)  By so praying we will be obedient  to the Bishop that God has given us, realizing, through faith,  that following the local ordinary is our very best strategy for a godly result in this troubling situation.

I invite both Randy Terry and Father John Jenkins to join me in this faith-filled strategy.

Bryan Brown was formerly a leader with NorthEast Indiana Rescue and a former associate of Randy Terry.  Brown  left Fort Wayne in 1991 (as a protestant evangelical) after being sued by the local abortion clinic (under a subsequently discredited legal theory), and returned to Fort Wayne in 2007 (as a Roman Catholic) to establish the ArchAngel Institute in the building that previously housed the abortion clinic that had driven him from his homeland 17 years earlier.   He lives in Fort Wayne with the beautiful wife and five children that the Lord gave him after leaving Fort Wayne for Wichita, Kansas  in 1991.

A time for prayer (all else is vanity)

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12

Saint Thomas More is but one of those witnesses.  He surely must have penned the following prayer while awaiting execution in the Tower.  Execution for the crime of standing on God’s law rather than man’s, execution due to the testimony of his enemies, execution for being political incorrect, execution for standing on tradition and with the Church rather than adopting the values and creeds of a New Age.

Here is a painting showing Sir Thomas More confronting an apostate Bishop.

Saint Thomas More, pray for me as I prepare for one of the most important hearings in my life.

A Prayer by St. Thomas More

Give me the grace, Good Lord:
To set the world at naught.
To set the mind firmly on You and not to hang upon
the words of men’s mouths.
To be content to be solitary.
Not to long for worldly pleasures. Little by little utterly to cast off the world and rid my mind of all its business. Not to long to hear of earthly things, but that the hearing of worldly fancies may be displeasing to me. Gladly to be thinking of God, piteously to call for His help.
To lean into the comfort of God. Busily to labor to love Him.
To know my own vileness and wretchedness.
To humble myself under the mighty hand of God.
To bewail my sins and, for the purging of them, patiently to suffer adversity. Gladly to bear my purgatory here.
To be joyful in tribulations.
To walk the narrow way that leads to life.
To have the last thing in remembrance.
To have ever before my eyes my death that is ever at hand.
To make death no stranger to me.
To foresee and consider the everlasting fire of Hell.
To pray for pardon before the judge comes.
To have continually in mind the passion that Christ suffered for me. For His benefits unceasingly to give Him thanks.
To buy the time again that I have lost.
To abstain from vain conversations.
To shun foolish mirth and gladness.
To cut off unnecessary recreations. Of worldly substance, friends, liberty, life and all, to set the loss at naught, for the winning of Christ.
To think my worst enemies my best friends, for the brethren of Joseph could never have done him so much good with their love and favor as they did him with their malice and hatred. These minds are more to be desired of every man than all the treasures of all the princes and kings, Christian and heathen, were it gathered and laid together all in one heap.

Amen.

More’s defense of the liberty of the House of Commons, which also took place in 1523, is commemorated by a life-size mural in England’s Parliament. (See painting above.) This painting is one of eight in the “Building of Britain” series in St. Stephen’s Hall, and it depicts a famous incident that occurred in 1523 when, as Speaker of the House of Commons, More ingeniously and courageously resisted Lord Chancellor and Cardinal Wolsey’s attempt to violate the Commons’ tradition of free deliberation

Acts
Chapter 26

1
Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You may now speak on your own behalf.” So Paul stretched out his hand and began his defense.
2
1 “I count myself fortunate, King Agrippa, that I am to defend myself before you today against all the charges made against me by the Jews,
3
especially since you are an expert in all the Jewish customs and controversies. And therefore I beg you to listen patiently.
4
My manner of living from my youth, a life spent from the beginning among my people 2 and in Jerusalem, all (the) Jews know.
5
They have known about me from the start, if they are willing to testify, that I have lived my life as a Pharisee, the strictest party of our religion.
6
But now I am standing trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our ancestors.
7
Our twelve tribes hope to attain to that promise as they fervently worship God day and night; and on account of this hope I am accused by Jews, O king.
8
Why is it thought unbelievable among you that God raises the dead?
9
I myself once thought that I had to do many things against the name of Jesus the Nazorean,
10
and I did so in Jerusalem. I imprisoned many of the holy ones with the authorization I received from the chief priests, and when they were to be put to death I cast my vote against them.
11
Many times, in synagogue after synagogue, I punished them in an attempt to force them to blaspheme; I was so enraged against them that I pursued them even to foreign cities.
12
“On one such occasion I was traveling to Damascus with the authorization and commission of the chief priests.
13
At midday, along the way, O king, I saw a light from the sky, brighter than the sun, shining around me and my traveling companions.
14
We all fell to the ground and I heard a voice saying to me in Hebrew, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goad.’ 3
15
And I said, ‘Who are you, sir?’ And the Lord replied, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.
16
Get up now, and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness of what you have seen (of me) and what you will be shown. 4
17
I shall deliver you from this people and from the Gentiles to whom I send you,
18
to open their eyes 5 that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may obtain forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been consecrated by faith in me.’
19
“And so, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.
20
On the contrary, first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem and throughout the whole country of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached the need to repent and turn to God, and to do works giving evidence of repentance.
21
That is why the Jews seized me (when I was) in the temple and tried to kill me.
22
But I have enjoyed God’s help to this very day, and so I stand here testifying to small and great alike, saying nothing different from what the prophets and Moses foretold, 6
23
that the Messiah must suffer 7 and that, as the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”
24
While Paul was so speaking in his defense, Festus said in a loud voice, “You are mad, Paul; much learning is driving you mad.”
25
But Paul replied, “I am not mad, most excellent Festus; I am speaking words of truth and reason.
26
The king knows about these matters and to him I speak boldly, for I cannot believe that (any) of this has escaped his notice; this was not done in a corner. 8
27
King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? 9 I know you believe.”
28
Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You will soon persuade me to play the Christian.”
29
Paul replied, “I would pray to God that sooner or later not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am except for these chains.”

In the national spotlight, she aborts her faith once again

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius is about as close to excommunicated as any Catholic politician can be.   (Like Speaker Pelosi in almost every way)

I (Bryan) was working for Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline and was asked to help set up a meeting with him and Kansas City-Topeka Bishop Joseph Naumann, a fine and courageous Church leader.

One of the Bishop’s right hand fellas was an old friend who has since gone to his great reward (RIP).  He told me that Bishop Naumann had spoken to Governor Sebelius in the most direct fashion about her Faith and the threat her allegiance to George Tiller represented to her standing as a Catholic.

That was six years ago.  She had aborted her faith for years then.

She just aborted it once again.

Here is a recent news report on that dialogue, which has followed Kathleen to DC.

and more here

As regular readers know, Sebelius is up for a cabinet level post in the Obama Administration — overseeing our nation’s health care delivery system.  With “socialized medicine” on the bill of fare and all that entails, including the relationship  between Catholic hospitals and the federal government, one would think that Obama would reign in Sebelius while confirmation is pending.

Evidently not.  Which is scary in and of itself.  Is it a message to the Church?  Sounds that way to me .

The “Queen of Kansas” just vetoed some very good legislation that Bishop Naumann was supporting.

Here is the link to that story in the Kansas media:  http://cjonline.com/at_home/2009-04-23/sebelius_vetoes_abortion_bill

What now, good Bishop?

What now, statesmen in Congress?

What now, Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas?  (Both have played politics and supported Sebelius for this very powerful post, from which she could force abortion on hospitals and med interns.)

We live in interesting times, that much is certain.

Find below a great letter, but the point is moot.  Click here for the news that Kathleen Sebelius, wife of federal judge Gary Sebelius, now runs the federal side of health care.  .   Prepare to stand with the Church, as that  the national media reports that  ”Senators want to get Sebelius in place to help shepherd Obama’s overhaul of the nation’s $2.5 trillion health care system to reduce costs and cover some 50 million uninsured Americans.”  Not to mention to ensure that the abortion industry has full and unfettered access to the nation’s hospitals and physicians in training.  She will serve her political masters, of that one can be certain.

A brand new level of Culture War is upon us.

April 28, 2009

President Barack Obama

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Washington, DC 20502

Dear President Obama:

You recently stated, “No matter what our views, we are united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce the need for abortion and support women and families in the choices they make. To accomplish these goals, we must work to find common ground.”

In an effort to work together to find common ground, we respectfully request that you reconsider and withdraw your nomination of Governor Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services in light of her close collaboration with the abortion industry.

During her time in public office, Governor Sebelius has demonstrated her adherence to the abortion agenda by accepting financial donations from extremist abortion providers and groups. For example, in a 2002 fundraising letter, George Tiller claims to have given more than $200,000 to ProKanDo, a political action committee that worked heavily to elect Governor Sebelius.  Further, she has hosted a Governor’s Mansion party for and accepted more than $35,000 in donations from the infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller, including $23,000 between 2000 and 2002 that she initially failed to disclosein her responses to the Senate Finance Committee.  In addition, Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States who has reported killing over 300,000 unborn children in 2008, has repeatedly endorsed Gov. Sebelius and conducted fundraisers on her behalf.

Given this, it is little wonder that Governor Sebelius repeatedly wielded her veto pen to protect abortion providers like George Tiller and Planned Parenthood,by refusing such common sense legislation as requiring abortion clinics to meet minimal safety standards. During her time in public office she has worked against even such modest measures as parental notification, waiting periods, and informed consent. In a 2004 Zogby poll, 61% of Americans said abortion should not be permitted after the fetal heartbeat has begun and furthermore, a July 2005 CBS poll indicated that 80% of those polled favor “requiring that at least one parent be told before a girl under 18 years of age could have an abortion.”  Only 17% of responders opposed such a provision. It is clear that Governor Sebelius’ position is extreme and goes against what a large majority of Americans know is right.

Given your intentions to significantly reform health care in the United States and to expand coverage of the uninsured, the Secretary of Health and Human Services needs to be committed to finding true common ground in the crafting of those policies. This should include protecting life and not forcing taxpayer dollars to be used for objectionable practices. Because of Governor Sebelius’s demonstrated commitment to those who actively promote abortion, we do not believe that she will lead the Department of Health and Human Services in a way that unites Americans in their support of pregnant women and their families.

We are deeply disappointed by this nomination and believe a nominee to such an important position should, at the very least, not have commitments to the morally reprehensible practice of providing abortion in almost every circumstance. For these reasons, we respectfully request that you withdraw your nomination of Kathleen Sebelius for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.

NOTE:  One of the counselors that the State of Indiana remanded me to incident to my petition to join their bar informed me that I should not refer to the providers of choice as the ”abortion industry.”  Looks like she should spend some time sharing her ultra-libreal perspectives on that with the above listed devotees of the Natural Law.  They evidently need their minds scrubbed, too.

Abortion is an industry in America.  One that supplies the mother’s milk to politicians such as Kathleen Sebelius and Barack Obama.  One that gives unto Caesar the coins that bear Caesar’s image while ”processing” children made in the image of the living God into so much refuse in the sewers of America.

Abortion is the primary industry of of the Culture of Death, and it is protected from scrutiny by the likes of Kathleen Sebelius, Barack Obama and those conspiring to keep conservatives out of positions of influence — like state bars.

Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas

The Institute shares a rich history with both late term abortionist George Tiller and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.  Both have spent time and dollars in legal, political and social entanglements with the Institute’s founder, Bryan Brown.

Tiller was the reason Brown went to Wichita when he was driven out of Fort Wayne by the Culture of Death in 1991.

Sebelius raised millions of pro-death moneys in 2006 to see Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline defeated.  Much of that money went into negative press and attack ads.  Bryan Brown, at that time a Deputy Attorney General under Kline, was targeted in many of those hit pieces.  It was the politics of personal destruction, leftist style.  Which meant, of course, that it was quite alright by the media’s standards of fair play.

Here are some links on theSebelius-Tiller ties to the ArchAngel Institute and its founding.

And here is some breaking national news on the subject …

From the Associated Press

WASHINGTON – The head of the Republican Party called on President Barack Obama to withdraw Kathleen Sebelius’ nomination as health secretary unless she answers more questions on abortion.

Senators scheduled a final vote on Sebelius for early next week and she was expected to win confirmation.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steelesaid Thursday that Sebelius, the Democratic governor of Kansas, has not been forthcoming about her ties to a Kansas abortion doctor, George Tiller.

“Significant questions remain about Gov. Kathleen Sebelius‘ evolving relationship with a late-term abortion doctor as well as about her position on the practice of late-term abortions,” Steele said in a statement. “If Gov. Sebelius and the Obama administration are unwilling to answer these questions, President Obama should withdraw her nomination.”

***

Sebelius was approved by the Senate Finance Committee this week with just two of 10 GOP votes. Several Republicans, including the top committee Republican Chuck Grassley of Iowa, raised concerns about her initial failure to disclose to senators how much campaign money she got from Tiller.

When the discrepancy became public Sebelius acknowledged getting an additional $23,000 from Tiller and his abortion clinic beyond the $12,450 she initially reported. She apologized and said it was an inadvertent error.

***

Sebelius told the Finance Committee that she personally opposes abortion, but she also has a long record in Kansas politics of supporting abortion rights. She’s repeatedly vetoed legislation sought by anti-abortion groups to impose more regulations on abortion clinics and rewrite the state’s restrictions on late-term abortions.

Just Thursday, in fact, Sebelius vetoed a closely watched measure that would have required doctors performing late-term abortions to report additional information to the state. She questioned whether the bill could withstand a court challenge and suggested some provisions could lead to “intimidation” of health care providers.

Associated Press writer John Hanna in Topeka, Kan., contributed to this report.

The West Wing Culture War Prep Continues

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

We have repeatedly documented our brand new President’s fascination with hard core culture warriors of the leftist variety. To quote a beloved president of days gone by, “there he goes again.”

This time it is a Hoosier leftist that President Obama is pushing forward. Two of them, actually. One for the judiciary and one for the legal arm of the Executive Branch. (Click to read articles on each)

We will report further on the judiciary at a later date. We had already reported on the Hoosier up for a West Wing job at this post.

As we previously opined, President Obama’s cabinet need not have a positive record on paying taxes, but sure must have a strong record of advocating for leftist causes.

Click here and here for more proof of the above. (Sebelius and Ogden, among many — make that most — others.)

Saint Michael the ArchAngel, defend us in battle. For battle is surely on the way, of the most Saul Alinsky kind. (Click here for more on that topic.

And then here for even more.

Read ‘em and pray. Culture war is coming.  Nigh, it is upon us.

Checkmate in the Culture War?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

David Souter was the ultimate in bait and switch Supreme Court justices.  George Bush the Elder put him on the High Court with the help of powerful NE influences, including Warren Rudman and John Sununu.  Traditionalists were assured he would be more conservative than he turned out to be.

We were betrayed, and now we have been betrayed again.

Without Souter on the High Court — If Bush the elder had instead put on someone of the caliber of Sam Alito, for example, things would have been much different for our nation.

Here is some interesting background from this source:

Governor John Sununu promoted Souter to the New Hampshire Supreme Court in 1983. Souter quickly established himself as a knowledgeable jurist and an independent thinker. President Bush appointed Souter to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1990. Justice William J. Brennan retired five months later, however, and Bush decided to move Souter up again. Although Sununu and Rudman denied involvement in Souter’s nomination, Souter’s friendship with both no doubt helped his cause. The ever-unassuming Souter had to be reassured by Rudman that, in light of all the qualified candidates available, an interview with Bush was really necessary. Souter’s nomination passed nearly unopposed through the Senate.

Souter’s first year on the Court was undistinguished. He wrote few opinions and did not display many hints of his judicial predisposition. Since then, he has appeared more comfortable on the Court. He has settled into the moderate camp of the Court as evidenced by his unprecedented 24 similar votes with the centrist Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Together with O’Connor and Kennedy, Souter has formed a moderate bloc in the Court that prevents domination from the conservative wing.

Souter has maintained his simple, bachelor lifestyle. He brings his own lunch, consisting of apples and yogurt, to work everyday and lives in an undecorated apartment. He still returns home to Weare during the summer breaks where he climbs the local mountains and visits his mother.

Now he leaves us, off to spend his retirement climbing mountains with mom, no doubt. Guess it just did not make sense to him in 2006 or 2008 or any other pre-Obama age.

Nice payback, David. We were betrayed, and now have been  betrayed once again.

Look for Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and John Paul Stevens (assuming he is not a ghoul who can ride out another century on the High Court) to follow suit in 2009 so that President Barack Obama is granted the rare opportunity to remake the United States Supreme Court in his own image and likeness well ahead of the fall 2010 elections.

Change America?  You voted for change?  How about Susan Estrich and Hillary Clinton and Janet Napolitano for the High Court?

Moving from the Postmodernist court to the Imperial Senate, note that Senator Arlen Specter surprised no one and finally switched rather than fight on as one of the most liberal Republicans in the Senate.  Aren’t we all glad that term limits never passed so that serial insiders like Specter can haunt us for our entire lives?

Thank the Bush family for that one as well.  They worked hard to keep Specter in the Senate, giving him the rope to hang what was left of any resistance to Emporer Obama.

We were betrayed at the time Senator Specter was re-elected, and now we have been betrayed once again.

With the Senate fully in Emporer Obama’s hands he does not need to worry over pro-lifers whining about the justices he is planning to force on America for the next 30 years or so.

Don’t get me wrong, they will still whine.  Fine fundraising letters will fly off the presses.  But those letters will merely allow a failed leadership to retire in some relative comfort.  The Right’s forward momentum in the political realm has ground to a halt until the 2010 elections -  assuming those are held.

As an attonrey once said to me in a similar (albeit less dire) situation: ”You are going to have to learn to negotiate from a position of weakness.”

This sure is looking like checkmate for the pro-life forces as they have been defined since the 1970’s. Click here for thoughts on a necessary new direction and here for the only known antidote to leftist power plays.

Thanks to the GOP and Bush family for leading us into this box canyon.

We have been betrayed too often in the past, let us agree that we will NOT make it easy to betray us ever again.

Oh, and may the Lord’s Will be done through the coming maelstrom.

Open mouth, Remove all doubt (post #1)

What follows is a guest editorial from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette two weeks ago.  The liberal news hounds evidently sought after this piece? (See the final tag line.)  Controversy does sell papers, and what can be more fun than finding someone to throw rocks at the local Bishop who just called your Chosen One an agent of the culture of death?
The Journal Gazette (or someone so posing) called up the ArchAngel Institute and invited us to weigh in on the topic as well.  The ArchAngel Institute tendered a rebuttal … it was refused.  Probably not what the JG had in mind?
The Institute’s rebuttal to Mr. Terry’s maligning of the fine Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend will be presented after this set up post has a day or two to sink in.
The Institute does not endorse or agree with the rantings that follow:
D’Arcy should fight harder against speech

Our hearts soared when Bishop John D’Arcy announced his boycott of Notre Dame’s graduation because President Obama will speak. Our hearts sank when he urged Catholics to “to stay away from unseemly and unhelpful demonstrations against our nation’s President or Notre Dame or Father John I. Jenkins, C.S.C…”

I wish the bishop had followed biblical teaching and contacted me before making his public statement against our efforts. Since he has spoken publicly, I have a duty to respond in the same venue.

It is ironic that D’Arcy chose Good Friday to issue a statement urging Catholics to remain silent in the face of treachery. Sadly, it appears that he is following in the most regretful steps of St. Peter.

Peter boldly swore that he would not deny Christ; D’Arcy boldly declared he would not deny the value of innocent lives for the sake of prestige. But now D’Arcy wavers before Pilate (don’t protest Obama), confirms Judas (don’t protest Jenkins), and abandons Christ in the babies (don’t show pictures of dead babies, don’t cry out against their murder).

In his printed statements urging us to forgo demonstrations, he does not even mention the babies dying at Obama’s command. Let us pray that even as Peter met the eyes of the suffering Christ – and Peter’s heart was broken as he wept bitter tears – that Bishop D’Arcy meets the eyes of the babies condemned to a brutal death by the man he now suggests we do not protest.

He also stated: “The Notre Dame community is well-equipped to supervise and support discussions and prayer within their own campus…” This sounds “spiritual,” but is actually part of the crisis. God warns us through Isaiah: “Though you spread out your hands in prayer, I will not listen; though you multiply prayers, I will not hear you. Your hands are covered with blood.”

There are times it offends God if we only pray. If you could feed a starving man, yet don’t, and tell him: “I’ll pray for you” you have sinned. If you can save someone’s life, yet you pass by like the priest and Levite did in the parable of the good Samaritan, you have sinned. If you know the right thing and don’t do it, you commit the sin of omission.

We must pray – yes – and then act courageously. We must seek justice, rebuke the ruthless, defend the fatherless and cry out for righteousness.

This I know for certain: D’Arcy has stepped far beyond his canonical authority by urging the faithful to abandon the babies – and thereby abandon Christ – and to honor Obama and Jenkins with our silent cooperation. We do not deny D’Arcy’s right to question certain tactics, but he has gone far beyond that. He has asked us to commit the sins of omission and silence. Respectfully, we will not.

Let us remember that the last chapter on D’Arcy has not yet been written. Even as Peter wept, repented, was restored by Christ and finally strengthened his brothers, let us pray for D’Arcy’s full conversion and restoration.

WISDOM FROM OUR FOUNDING FATHER

There exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy, and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity; since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.”

President George Washington, First Inaugural Speech
