How many divisions has the pope?

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

One can imagine President Barack Obama asking the same question as Joe Stalin about now.  Click here if you do not know the background.

Is David Ogden and the American Psychological Association (APA) right about post abortion syndrome or is Pope Benedict XVI?  They cannot both be right.  Click here for the pope’s position on the subject.

Is David Odgen and the APA right about post abortion syndrome or are those who have experienced it first hand?  Click here and here for posts on that subject.

Will these questions be asked on the Hill next week?

We sincerely doubt it.

Lent is upon us and our prayers are complete …

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

The headline seems strange, since Lent is all about prayer.

But we truly have finished a prayer marathon at the Institute.  We now look to the Lord of History to fill our sails with wind in His good time.

The ongoing daily prayer services that were kicked off on September 29 concluded at the Institute today, Shrove Tuesday.  We have prayed in the Orthodox tradition every Monday, in the Evangelical intercessory tradition every Tuesday, through the great hymns of the Faith on Wednesday, the Holy Rosary on Thursday and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy every Friday for 20 weeks.

Thanks to Father David Meizen, Gloria Carrell, John Brown, Dolores Torrez, Bill Baermann  and Theresa Joy Burkette for leading these prayers.  Thanks to Ron Wellman, Priscilla Lauer, Don Carrell, Bernie Brown, Deacon Mike and more than a few others for being frequent prayers with us.

And much thanks to Retta Kohrman for hosting the daily prayers and keeping them focused upon Jesus Christ the Lord and His grace and mercy.  We have asked for guidance, for provision and for deliverance.  We have asked for the Lord to reach out to George Klopfer and Susan Hill in His merciful love.

The catagories at the right contain some of our spiritual postings if you want to be so stirred during the Lenten season.  See especially Lent 2008 and Advent.

THE INSTITUTE WILL NOW SEEK THE CREATOR IN STILLNESS.  WE HAVE DETERMINED IT BEST TO FOLLOW ANCIENT CHURCH EXAMPLE AND SPEND LENT IN SILENCE BEFORE THE LORD.  THIS WEBSITE WILL NOT BE UPDATED UNTIL EASTER.  THE INSTITUTE IS CLOSED AND DRAPED IN PURPLE.  THOSE SERVING THE CULTURE OF LIFE AT THE INSTITUTE ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEEK GOD’S FACE IN THIS TIME OF ABSTAINING AS THE BOARD OF THE ARCHANGEL INSTITUTE SEEKS TO KNOW GOD’S ORDERS FOR US IN THESE TRYING TIMES.

If you do not understand why we would close down for Lent then this article may be of some help:

What is Lent?

In the Christian calendar, this is a 40-day period of penitence and self-discipline beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending with the service on Holy Saturday which marks the start of Easter. Sundays falling within this period are not counted as part of Lent but as days of normality, or even celebration, notably Mothering Sunday

. In medieval times, the rules of fasting were severe: on weekdays, meat, milk products, and eggs were all forbidden, and only one meal a day could be eaten; marriages could not be celebrated, and couples were expected to refrain from intercourse; dancing and entertainment were forbidden too. After the Reformation observing Lent as a matter of personal piety persisted, in milder forms, in the High Church sections of Anglicanism. The Victorian growth of Anglo-Catholicism, and the influx of Irish immigrants, made the concept very familiar; most people now are aware that ‘giving something up for Lent’ is appropriate, even if they do not do it themselves.

President Obama yet assembles a culture war cabinet

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Thanks to Darl D for this tip.

The Governor of Kansas has been called out by the Kansas Bishops for attempting to reconcile her alleged Catholic faith and her slavish subservience to the abortion money that dominates Kansas politics.  (Thanks to George Tiller and Planned Parenthood.)

HHS Leader Sebelius Brings A Radical Abortion Record
By John P. Connolly, The Bulletin

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is being reported as the front-runner as President Barack Obama’s appointment for Health And Human Services Secretary.

Although Ms. Sebelius was touted by The New York Times as a bipartisan politician, she comes with a strong pro-abortion record.

Not only has Ms. Sebelius — governor in a battleground state on the abortion issue — repeatedly vetoed any measures that would limit or regulate abortion that came across her desk, she also has ties to an abortionist with a history of performing risky abortions in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Ms. Sebelius has reportedly received large campaign contributions from abortionist George Tiller, who was the subject of investigation after a 19-year-old woman died during an abortion at his clinic in 2005. The patient had been 28 weeks pregnant. Mr. Tiller currently faces 19 criminal charges, a grand jury investigation, and two open investigations with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts for criminal conduct and violations of the standard of care.

In April 2007, Mr. Tiller and his entire abortion clinic staff were honored by Ms. Sebelius at a party held at the governor’s mansion. When news of the party broke, the governor’s office defended the party, saying that the abortion clinic staff were honored via a charity auction and had no control over who might attend. Sources who attended the party described it as “by special invitation only.”

Ms. Sebelius’wholesale endorsement of abortion sparked a battle with Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas, who condemned her example of a Catholic leader in May 2008. Archbishop Naumann publicly instructed Ms. Sebelius from receiving the Eucharist, until she publicly condemns her own actions on abortion and makes efforts to amend her life.

In 2006, Ms. Sebelius vetoed Senate Bill 528, which would have required documentation justifying the performance of late-term abortions.

“My Catholic faith teaches me that life is sacred,” admitted Ms. Sebelius when she vetoed the pro-life bill. “Personally, I believe abortion is wrong.”

In 2003, Ms. Sebelius also vetoed HB 2176, the Abortion Clinic Licensing bill, which would have required abortionists to follow minimum safety and health-standards at their clinics.
